Slime Rancher 2 was launched on September 22, 2022 as a sequel to the popular indie slime game, Slime Rancher 1, which has been enjoyed by over 15 million fans.

It has received very positive reviews, at 95% positive reviews on Steam at the time of writing.

It is now available on Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and on Xbox Cloud Gaming. Additionally, it is important to note that it has improved in multiple areas over its predecessor and it is packed with a lot of content, despite still being in Early Access.

However, many Slime Rancher 2 fans are wondering whether Slime Rancher 2 will feature multiplayer or not. It certainly is a lot of fun playing Slime Rancher with your friends.

Let’s talk about what we know so far!

Does Slime Rancher 2 feature Multiplayer?

Sadly, at the time of writing, Slime Rancher 2 does not feature multiplayer. Note that this means that split-screen is not supported either unfortunately. In other words, coop mode is not officially supported by the game studio.

This can definitely be bad news for many fans, but keep reading below to find out future development plans. It is important to note that there may be mods which support coop functionality (just like Slime Rancher 1), although these are not officially endorsed by us or by the developers.

Will Slime Rancher 2 feature Multiplayer?

According to their FAQ, Monomi Park, the game development studio behind the popular Slime Rancher franchise, stated:

“We are currently focusing on Slime Rancher 2 being a great single player experience and do not have any plans for multiplayer at this time. Slime Rancher’s physics also make multiplayer a very challenging proposition at the level of quality we expect at Monomi Park. However, anything is possible in the future and if our plans change we will be sure to let the community know.”

Therefore, it is unlikely that multiplayer support could be released in the short-term. However, we believe that it is important to note that they do not reject it either: “However, anything is possible […]”. We think this is a good sign as they’re leaving the door open for multiplayer, despite not having plans for it at the moment.

Like all Early Access releases, development can take a long time and, for now, it is best to enjoy the game single-player.

In conclusion, as of the release of Slime Rancher 2, the game does not feature multiplayer or split-screen support. However, it should be noted that the game development studio, Monomi Park, has stated that they are currently focusing on creating a great single player experience but have not ruled out the possibility of multiplayer in the future.

Fans should keep an eye out for updates and developments in this area, but for now, Slime Rancher 2 is a perfectly fun game to play solo.
